Buwaneka, Sachin win Australian Junior International

Unseeded Buwaneka Goonathileka and Sachin Dias won the under-19 doubles finals and claimed the GOLD medal rewritting history books at the 2013 Australian Junior International Badminton Tournament in Ballarat.
The Sri Lankan pair powered their way to the men’s doubles final after defeating Australia’s Daniel Guda and Toby Wong in straight sets in their semi-final match on 04th May.
Meanwhile, Sasmitha Dayarathne of Vishaka College, Colombo, Kavindi De Silva of Southlands College, Galle, Kabodh Halambage of St. Peters College, Colombo and A. Mahesh of Nalanda College Colombo won Under 19 mens and womens doubles bronze medals.

Silver Jubilee of Festival of Cricket at the new and very picturesque Merchant Taylors' School grounds

The Festival of Cricket, in this Silver Jubilee year will be held at a new large picturesque venue - the grounds of the Merchant Taylors' School, Sandy Lodge, Moor Park, Northwood, HA6 2TA, with ample space for displaying Banners, and accommodating Trade Stalls etc., around the 6 pitches where talented past pupils resident in the UK, of 28 prestigious Sri Lankan Colleges, will play 7 a-side limited over cricket matches throughout the day on Sunday 28th July, 2013.
A large Hospitality Lounge will cater to Corporate entertaining, and there will also be a large picnic area with entertainment for children and a car park for over 1000 cars within the grounds.
Moor Park Station on the Metropolitan Line serves the ground.

Richmond College Bicentennial

The first celebrations, the Silver Jubilee was celebrated in 1901,and the Golden Jubilee Anniversary was celebrated in 1926, Fifty years after the inauguration in 1876, when the school was still being administered by the Methodist Missionaries and the tradition had been followed by subsequent Principals and OBA Officials. Accordingly the Diamond Jubilee was celebrated in 1951, during the Principalship of Mr.E R De Silva the first Christian Sri Lankan, and the Centenary in 1976 after the State take over of schools.
Richmond's Bicentennial, the 200th year will fall in 2076, Sixty Four Years from now!

Richmond continued their winning spree when they coasted to their ninth outright win of the season with a convincing nine wicket win over Dharmaraja in the Under 19 match concluded at Galle yesterday.
This was Richmond’s second successive win within a space of five days having defeated Revatha MMV last Saturday by eight wickets.
Richmond had laid the foundation for their win when play ended on day one having bowled out the Rajans for a low score of 89 and then going on to make a 155.

In memory of late M.D. Yapa - Founder member of RCU - UK

M.D Yapa in the village of Waralla in Sri Lanka was a well known philanthropist known for the impetus he gave to his village school in Waralla which is now known as the M.D.Yapa Central School.
This has been done in memory of this illustrious son now long departed who was the late co founder of this school , and on whose insistence the nine children he bore, had their initial education in this school before proceeding for their higher education to the more prominent and urban schools in Sri Lanka. Ariyapala our departed friend was the eldest sibling in this family of children Keerthie, Padmini, Nalini, Gamini ,Vijitha, Haris, Lal and late Tilak and Asoka who subsequently illuminated the life and times of this remote village Waralla.

Richmond lads clinch U-13 division one title

Richmond College U-13 team beat St. Anthony's Wattala by 8 wickets to clinch the Under-13, division I title for the second cosecutive year, in the final played at the Thurstan College's ground, Colombo on Tuesday 12th February.
Ravishka Wijesiri played a sheet anchor role to guide his team to victory with a painstaking 43, sending only three to the fence, out of the 109 balls he faced. Ravishka was ably supported by number four batsman, Kasun Tharuka, with an unbeaten 26, with five hits to the boundary.
Kavindu Ediriweera of Richmond College was adjudged as best bowler while Sawan Prabash was selected as the best batsman.
